Our Brussels office is currently looking to recruit an associate to join its 10-lawyer strong Competition & EU Law department.
Bird & Bird's international Competition & EU Law Group comprises around 40 specialist competition lawyers located in 10 jurisdictions. The group includes many leading practitioners in the field and its members have significant industry expertise in key sectors of the firm, including communications, IT, automotive, electronics and energy. The team has been involved in many high-profile cases in recent years and works on cutting edge issues, in particular regarding the intersection of IP and competition law.
The competition team in Brussels works on a broad range of matters including anti-competitive agreements and cartels, abuse of dominance and merger control. It also has a strong state aid practice and members of the team regularly represent clients before the EU courts in Luxembourg.
Our Brussels office covers all areas of business law and brings together a team of more than 40 multi-lingual lawyers.
You will have the opportunity to participate in various marketing initiatives (such as pitches, client seminars and publications);
You will be able to develop an in-depth understanding of Bird & Bird's key industry sectors, in particular in the high- tech and regulated sectors;
You will work closely with and will be mentored by partners in the group; and
You will receive continuous training and feedback to help you develop your legal, business and interpersonal skills.
At least 3 years of relevant professional experience;
A strong academic background - an LL.M. in EU/competition law is an advantage;
Significant experience regarding EU and multijurisdictional merger notifications;
An excellent command of English and German or French;
Strong reasoning and writing skills;
Committed to delivering high-quality work;
A good team player, fitting in well with our open, entrepreneurial culture; and
A keen interest for business development activities; creating and maintaining strong client relationships and identifying new business opportunities.
