Alumna Interview

Juliane Thon

LL.M. Class of 2012 with focus on U.S. Law; Senior Corporate Lawyer, Vantage Towers (Frankfurt)

Why did you choose to study law?

I chose to study law to give the unheard/wrongfully treated a voice.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Georgia?

Because they have a small LL.M. program, great staff and the perfect grad school experience.

What was your contact with other students like?

Especially through the small LL.M. program I connected with a lot of U.S. J.D. students.

Did you profit from the University of Georgia’s network?

Yes, you can always reach out to alumni. I am still in touch with certain former students.

Were there any alumni reunions after you finished your LL.M?
If yes, how did they look like?

Yes, there is a very active LL.M. alumni network with annual international reunions, and every fifth year there is a reunion in Athens, GA (at our alma mater).

How did attending the University of Georgia School of Law change your career?

My legal English and my knowledge about the common law System helped with all my job applications.

Which was your favorite course / part of the program you attend?

International arbitration class and IP law especially, due to the amazing professors who taught the classes.

Why would you recommend the University of Georgia’s study program to future students?

Never underestimate a small LL.M. program - you greatly benefit from it and have a lot of contact with U.S. students; and the faculty at UGA law is awesome.
And not to forget the advantages of a real college life, including football games and a student town right by the campus.
